EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team went to overtime for the second straight night, but this time came out on the losing end in a 81-78 loss to Warner Pacific College, ranked #9 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Jake Glisson and Reggie Guyton combined to score 59 of the Knights points and it was Reggie Guyton who hit three shots from beyond the arc in the final two minutes of regulation and added another trey to seal the victory in overtime.
The teams battled closely all evening, fighting through nine ties and twelve lead changes. NCU held the lead for most of the second half, but the Knights would not go away, ralling from what was at one point an eight-point Northwest Christian lead.
NCU shot 54% through regulation, but hit just 3-for-13 in the overtime period as Warner Pacific pulled away. The Beacons also held the Knights to a season-low 28 rebounds, a team averaging over 44 boards per game.
The Beacons (6-13, 2-5 CCC) were led by Ben Voogd who finished with 17 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds to go with seven of NCU’s 14 turnovers. Brent McKee added fourteen points as did Andrew Miller, along with nine rebounds. Cameron Marshall had another strong game with 11 points and nine rebounds and Kellen Spicer came off the bench to score nine points in the first half.
Warner Pacific (14-3, 6-1 CCC) take over sole possession of first-place in the Cascade Conference with a half-game lead over Oregon Tech. Glisson finished with a game-high 35 points, shooting 14-for-17 from the floor including a 3-for-4 clip from three point range. Guyton ended the night with 24 points. He had seven three-pointers on only eleven attempts. Kaylone Riley scored six points, but picked up game-highs with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Le Grande to face Eastern Oregon University at 7:30 pm.
