KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University men rebounded from last night’s loss to Oregon Tech by defeating Southern Oregon, 76-62, tonight in CCC play.

In a low scoring first half, Southern Oregon would hold the lead, 17-10, at the 8:48 mark. Northwest would go on a 8-0 run capped off by Stedman Richardson’s jump shot and two free throws by the Eagles’ Jason Waltman, to put NU into the lead, 18-17, with 6:51 to go until the half. Two free throws by SOU’s Chris Mackovjak and a 3-pointer by Justonn Smith would vault the Raiders back into the lead, 22-18, with 5:58 on the clock. Southern Oregon would maintain the slim lead until the 3:18 mark when NU’s Blake Solomon would sink a 3-pointer from the left side giving the Eagles a 25-24 lead which they would maintain the remainder of the half. Stedman Richardson would end the scoring for the first half with his jumper in the lane with 23 seconds remaining to give NU a slim, 28-26, as both teams headed into the locker room.

Northwest U. would take a 40-32 lead 4 minutes and 3 seconds into the second half and Tyson Christie would drive the right baseline a drop in a layup. It would be a lead the Eagles would never relinquish as they would slowly create distance between themselves and the Raiders. Greg Peter’s dunk off a missed layup would put NU ahead 49-40 with 11:39 to go in the game. Joe White’s trey would pull SOU to within 4 points, 49-45, at the 10:53 mark, but Northwest would answer with a tip in by Peters and a 10 foot jumper by Stedman Richardson with 9:26 on the clock to put NU up, 53-45. A baseline jumper by Peters and a length of the court driving layup by Richardson would give the Eagles a 12 point bulge (57-45) with 8:26 remaining. With the score 57-47, Northwest would go on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 16 points, 63-47, as they would cruise the rest of the way to their 10th victory of the season and improve their conference mark to 5-2.

Junior Tyson Christie (Sherwood, Ore.) led five Northwest U. (10-7, 5-2 CCC) players with a game high 18 points.
