Eastern's Rosebud Guthrie recorded her first collegiate double double Sunday.
COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team had little trouble with Walla Walla University Sunday, 81-37.
EOU (11-6) (5-2) was led by a trio of young scorers, Rosebud Guthrie, Sasha Valdez, and Kathleen Luce each finished with 14 points. Guthrie recorded her first collegiate double-double grabbing 12 rebounds versus the Wolves.
Guthrie averaged 2.0 points and 2.44 rebounds per game before Sunday's game. The freshman went 5 for 7 from the field in 25 minutes.
Valdez and Luce each finished with 14 points in their first career starts. Kelsea Hurliman and Colby Patton each made their first career starts, and the freshmen responded with 13 and 10 point performances. Mattea Zabala added 13 points for the Mountaineers.
Eastern shot 50 percent from the field, its highest percentage so far this season. The Mountaineers outrebounded WWU, 38-22. EOU had 17 assists, compared to Walla Walla's six.
Heather McFadden was the lone Wolves' player to reach double digits with 10 points. WWU finished 31 percent from the field, much higher than their 18 percent in an earlier season meeting with Eastern Oregon. The Mountaineers defeated Walla Walla, 93-21, on Oct. 27, 2009.
The Mountaineers bounced back after a 47-43 setback to The College of Idaho Friday night. EOU sits in second place in the conference standings behind C of I.
Eastern Oregon hosts Northwest Christian Friday in Quinn Coliseum at 5:30 p.m. The Beacons (7-9) (1-6) ride a six game losing streak into La Grande.
