SEATTLE—Competing for the first time in 2010, the Concordia track and field teams netted six NAIA automatic qualifiers at the University of Washington Indoor Invitational held at the Dempsey Indoor on Saturday.

The Cavalier men recorded four of the six auto marks as Eric Burck (mile), Martin Romero-Clark (3,000), Bo Johnson (weight throw) and Seth Cordell (pole vault) posted results under the ‘A’ standard.

With a 4:17.57 in the mile, Burck tallied his third automatic mark of the young season as the senior had already reached the standard in the 3,000- and the 5,000-meter runs. Burck’s time was just over a second faster than the 4:18.80 he needed to reach ‘A’ status in the event.

Already qualified in the 1,000, Romero-Clark tripled his distance and got the same result as an 8:38.59 dipped below the automatic standard with just over a second to spare.

Cordell provided the men’s team its third such qualifier and eighth of the indoor season with a 15-7 1/4 clearance in the pole vault and Johnson eclipsed the 'A' standard in the weight throw after uncorking a 53-8 1/4.

On the women’s side, Katherine Tripp, an All-American in the shot put during the outdoor season last year, unleashed a 44-4 toss in the event and Gabriella Dixson, a freshman from Battle Ground, Wash., was credited with a 49-10 1/2 school-record effort in the weight throw to give CU its third and fourth automatic qualifiers of the season.

The Cavaliers return to action on Feb. 5-6 when it competes at the Vandal Collegiate at the University of Idaho.
