LA GRANDE, Ore. -- A critical component for campus life, PEH classes and intercollegiate athletics is a quality fitness center. The Eastern Oregon University Athletic Department is in the final stages of a makeover of the Quinn Fitness Center this week in a effort to maintain and improve a major student gathering place on campus.

"Our goal is to create a system by which we are always positioned to have the best and most updated fitness equipment for our student body, faculty and staff and public pass holders to utilize," Director of Athletics, Rob Cashell said. “With a larger on campus population and the desire to have successful athletic teams the fitness center plays a key role in recruitment and retention.”

The fitness center was expanded and improved in 2001 and individual pieces of equipment have been replaced over time but this is the first comprehensive improvements since the new facility was opened. The new replacement program will allow for continual upgrades to equipment with the latest technological advances.

The upgrades include three new treadmills, two new bench presses, two new incline benches, one new decline bench, eight new squat racks with built in platforms and multi-angle benches, a functional trainer, row machine, plyometric boxes, two sets of dumbbells, preacher curl bench, lat pull down/seated row machine and four spin cycles.

A combination of student fees and pass holder dues will be used to financial support the equipment replacement program for current and future upgrades.
