Knight Athletics is pleased to announce Oscar Monteblanco as the next Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Warner Pacific College.

“We are thrilled to have coach Monteblanco at Warner Pacific,” said Athletic Director Ryan Kaiser. “His diverse background and experience is a perfect fit for the mission of the college. He has a real passion for developing players of all backgrounds, particularly in an urban setting. He has been successful at every level of soccer – youth, high school, club, and junior college. We look forward to what he will accomplish with our women’s soccer program.”

Monteblanco arrives at WP from Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore. His two season stint for the Storm includes a NWAACC Southern Division Championship and Final Four appearance in 2009. His team finished with a 15-2-1 record, after which he was selected to coach the NWAACC South/North All-Stars.

Previous stops include two years at Valley Catholic High School, where he led the girl’s soccer team to a league championship and 4A State semifinal appearance in 2007. He was named 4A Coach of the Year after guiding the program to 16-1-1 record.

From 2001-05 he was head boys coach at North Marion High School. He led the program to three state playoff appearances and an overall record of 35-7-6. He also spent four years as head girls coach at Molalla High School, where his overall record was 31-9-8 and led the program to three state playoff appearances.

Monteblanco is the founder and President of Multicultural High School Soccer League. Formed in 1998, the organization has made a significant difference in the lives of over 1000 economically disadvantaged urban youth in Oregon.

Oscar is currently involved with the Olympic Development Program in Oregon as coach of the ’95 Boys. In addition, he has coached with several clubs in the area including Cascade Futbol Club, Southside Soccer Club, and Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club.

He earned a Bachelor of Science from The University of Lima in Lima, Peru in 1983.

“I am very excited to be coaching at Warner Pacific,” says Monteblanco. “I am looking forward to building the program and raising the level of play. I’ve had success in identifying players that can excel on the field and are serious about their academics. We play in a very tough conference with several quality programs, but there is no reason why Warner Pacific can’t be competing right along side each of these institutions. I am anxious to get started and look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Coach Monteblanco will begin his coaching duties effective immediately and will be actively recruiting for the 2010 season. Interested players may contact him at oscar0657@comcast.net.
