ASHLAND, ORE. - A key free throw by the Southern Oregon men and a key free throw miss on the other end helped the Raiders score a 71-70 victory over College of Idaho tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

Southern Oregon improved to 10-9 overall and 2-8 in Cascade Conference action. College of Idaho dropped to 7-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Ryan Staker led the Raiders with 21 points. David Grant finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Wolfer finished with 11 points and Jarrad Childs finished with 10 points.

Craig McGee led the Coyotes with 22 points. Matt Ballenger and Kelly McCarty had 14 points each.

With three seconds to play and the scored tied a 70-70, Staker stepped to the line and nailed his first free throw to give the Raiders a 71-70 lead.

The second free throw bounced off the rim and as the Coyotes dribbled up the court, SOU committed a foul and sent Kelvin Potts to the free throw line with the chance to tie it or win the game. Potts’ first free throw bounced out and the Raiders gathered the rebound and the victory.

The game featured plenty of offense between the two schools as SOU shot 60 percent and the Yotes shot 56 percent in the first half. SOU’s biggest lead of the second half was just five points.

Southern Oregon hosts Eastern Oregon tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
