KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest Christian U. over came a 3 point halftime deficit to defeat Northwest University, 71-65, in Cascade Conference play tonight.

Northwest Christian would jump out to an early 21-10 lead as Kellen Spicer drilled a 3-pointer at the 10:11 mark of the first half. Northwest U. would then on a 13-2 run over the next 8 minutes to tie the game at 23-all with just 1:26 left on the clock until halftime. A single free throw by NU’s Jason Waltman would give NU their first lead (24-23) with 30 seconds to go but NCU’s Andrew Miller would knot the score at 24-24 making one of two free throws awarded on a technical foul called on NU’s Greg George during Waltman’s free throw attempt. Northwest would grab a missed free throw by NCU’s Andrew Miller with 8 seconds remaining and Tyson Christie would drain a 3-pointer just as he crossed the half court line with 2 ticks left on the clock to put NU up at the half, 27-24.
 
Northwest would continue to lead into the second half but NCU’s Kellen Spicer’s layup would give Northwest Christian back the lead, 35-34, with 14:46 left in the game. After to more ties and lead changes, an 8-2 NCU run would put the Beacons up 45-41 at the 10:57 mark. Northwest Christian would lead the remainder of the game and build their lead to 8 points, 56-48 with 4:21 to go. NU would pull back to within five, 64-59, with 1:32 to go, but it would be the closest they would come as Northwest Christian would avenge an earlier loss to the Eagles at home in December. Erik Quick-Warner would sink 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the win for NCU.
 
Stedman Richardson (Jr., Federal Way, Wash.) led Northwest U. (11-10, 6-5 CCC) with 15 points while Greg Peters scored a double-double on the night with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Tyson Christie added 11 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out of the contest. Northwest U. would be held to 35% shooting on the night.
 
Erik Quick-Warner led Northwest Christian (8-15, 4-7 CCC) with a game high 17 points including the 7 for 8 shooting from the free throw line. Cameron Marshall would add 12 points and Ben Voogd dropped in 11 points for the Beacons who shot 49% for the game and a hot 57% in the second half. NCU also out rebounded Northwest U. 37-34. NCU converted 85% of their free throw attempts (23 of 27).
