PORTLAND, Ore.—Holding Concordia to 26.9 percent shooting, Warner Pacific defeated the Cavaliers 73-53 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday night.

With the win, WPC improved to 12-7 on the season and 7-3 in league action while Concordia fell to 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the CCC. Concordia returns to action next week by traveling to face The College of Idaho while Warner Pacific hits the road to face Eastern Oregon on Friday. The two teams swap opponents for Saturday’s contests.

After falling behind briefly in the first with the score 7-4, Warner Pacific would connect on half their shots in the period while holding the Cavs to 34.5 percent to pull away from the home team. Warner Pacific’s Marissa Towrey scored 14 of her team-high 18 points in the opening period, to help the Knights to as much as a 19-point lead in the half before settling for a 41-26 advantage at the break.

The shooting woes continued for Concordia in the second half, connecting on just 4 of 23 attempts (17.4 percent) as Warner Pacific increased its lead to 21, the biggest lead of the night, with the score 52-31 after a Kristina Schumacher three-pointer with 16:07 remaining.

A pair of free throw conversions and a jumper by CU’s Danielle Clauson cut the margin to 11 with the score resting at 60-49, but the lead would prove to be safe with the Knights rolling to the 20-point victory.

After Towry’s 18 points, Schumacher finished with 14 and Kelsey Mattsen 10 as three Knights reached double figures in the scoring column.

Hitting 11 of 11 from the free throw line, Clauson tallied a game-high 21 points while teammate Ann Snodderly chipped in with 11.

Warner Pacific outrebounded the Cavs 48-32 and registered 14 assists compared to just five for CU.
