PORTLAND, Ore.— Connecting on 60 percent from the field for the game, Dordt College defeated Concordia 87-54 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Saturday night.

With the win, Dordt, members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, improved to 9-5 on the season while CU dropped to 11-4 overall.

The Defenders got points from 12 different players with five reaching double figures as Dordt opened up a double-digit lead late in the first half and never looked back en route to the 33-point rout.

After hitting 51.7 percent from the floor in the first, the Defenders shot 67.7 percent in the second, converting 21 of 31 attempts over the final 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers were stymied by a 34.9 percent shooting night which included just a single make in 21 attempts from three-point territory.

Dordt’s Kevin Fopma recorded a game-high 14 points, 12 of which came from a 4 of 4 performance from long range. Concordia got 10 points from started Jourdan Sweeney and 10 points from Greg McFarland off the bench.

Although committing 17 turnovers to just 13 for the Cavaliers, Dordt outrebounded the Concordia 47-30.

Concordia returns to action on Jan. 8 when it travels to Northwest Christian for a 7:30 p.m. Cascade Collegiate Conference test in Eugene, Ore.
