Concordia's Patrick Fennimore and Dominique Jacoy set school records in the heptathlon and pentathlon this weekend in Seattle.
CU Sets 10 New School Records at UW Indoor
SEATTLE—Nearly a third of the school’s indoor record book was rewritten this weekend as 10 Concordia all-time indoor school marks were broken at the University f Washington’s Indoor Invitational held at Dempsey Indoor on Friday and Saturday.
In addition, five NAIA ‘A’ standard performances were posted along with three provisional marks.
On the track, the men’s team established new marks in the 800, mile and the 3,000. Cordero Cisneros nipped the 800-meter record with a 1:56.46, dipping below the 1:57.59 set by teammate Martin Romero-Clark last season.
With one record getting wiped out, Romero-Clark would register his name on the school’s all-time leaderboard with a 4:14.52 in the mile to unseat Eric Burck’s 4:17.57 in the event from earlier in the year. Duplicating Romero-Clark’s feat, Burck would reestablish his name on the school’s record book with an all-time school best 8:24:23 in the 3,000-meter run; cutting more than eight seconds off of former Cavalier Tim Badley’s former record.
Both vertical jump records were defeated as Seth Cordell and Marcus Cooper toppled their own school records barriers as Cordell improving his 15-11 3/4 indoor best in the pole vault by two inches with a 16-1 3/4 jump and Cooper clearing 6-8 in the high jump to set a new school record as well as hitting the NAIA automatic standard.
In Friday’s action, Alice Taylor improved upon her school record in the 5,000 with a 17:09.48 in an eighth-place result to shave more than seven seconds off her previous best. Freshman Gabrielle Dixson crushed her own school record in the weight throw by unleashing a 54-7 1/2 to finish in sixth place and adding more than six feet to her personal best set in early January.
The final three school records came in events yet to be competed in during the brief history of the program as Dominque Jacoy established the women’s pentathlon mark with 2,837 points, Patrick Fennimore accumulating 4,404 points in the heptathlon and the men’s 3,200-meter relay squad consisting of Cisneros, Romero-Clark, Burck and Jessy Brown turning in a 7:48.74 in a meet-winning performance.
Brown and Romero-Clark would add a second NAIA automatic race to their meet resume as both harriers qualified in the men’s mile. Cisneros settled for provisional status in his 800-meter effort, missing the ‘A’ standard of 1:56.33 by .1 second.
Cisneros was joined by Samantha Robert and Eric Whalen in obtaining ‘B’ standard marks as Robert cruised to a 18:29.51 in the 5,000 and Whalen tossing a 49-3 1/2 I the shot put.
Lauren Moran gave the Cavs its final automatic qualifier with a 22-second personal record in the 3,000, crossing in 10:09.75 in a near school-record run.
Several additional CU athletes improved upon their season-best marks as Katherine Tripp was measured with a 45-1 1/2 in the women’s shot and Bo Johnson with a 54-8 3/4 in the men’s weight throw
