KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University broke a record for points scored by a Cascade Conference team as they defeated Multnomah University tonight, 131-100, in a non-conference game.

NU broke the previous record held by Oregon Tech (1994 vs. Simpson) and Concordia U. (2009 vs. Multnomah U.) which was 130 points. The Eagles tied the record set by Concordia against the same Multnomah team this year making 54 of their 89 field goal attempts. Multnomah shot fifty-nine 3-point field goals and converted 23 of them for the night.

Northwest U. led the entire way jumping out to a 22-8 lead with 13:22 to go in the first half. With 7:22 left until halftime, Northwest increased their lead to 20 points, 36-16 on an offensive rebound and tip in by Greg Peters. 3-pointers by MU’s Tyler Yates and Connor Hambelton pulled the Lions to within 15 at 40-25 but that would be the closest they would get the remainder of the half as NU would take a 59-39 lead into the locker room. Multnomah would convert only 7 of 25 3-point attempts for a 28% average while the Eagles would shoot a hot 60% from 2-point FG range.

NU would not waste any time in putting some distance between them and the Lions in the second half as Greg George would lay the ball in off a Tyler Mendezona assist to put NU up 65-40. George would add a free throw on the play to make it 66-40 with 17:57 left in the game. Jason Waltman’s offensive tip in would increase the NU lead to 30 points (90-60) at the 12:24 mark and Blake Solomon’s trey would put NU over the century mark for the first time this year, 101-66, with 8:59 left on the clock. A jumper by NU’s Greg George would increase the score to 116-78 with 5:25 left on the clock. Tyler Mendezona’s free throw with 3:37 to go would give NU its largest lead of the game at 122-81 as the Eagles would cruise to their ninth win of the season.

Six Eagles scored double figures for Northwest U. (9-6, 4-1 CCC) with Blake Solomon scoring a game high 33 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and handing out 5 assists. Junior Greg George scored a double-double with his 27 points and 11 rebounds; Nathan Downs came off the bench and scored a career high 22 points; while Jason Waltman and Greg Peters dropped in 12 points a piece; and Stedman Richardson added 10 points for the Eagles. Peters also scored a double-double with his game high 14 rebounds. The Eagles shot 61% from 2-point FG range and hit 53% of their 3-point attempts. NU also grabbed a season high 63 rebounds including 19 offensive boards in their record setting night.

Tyler Yates led Multnomah U. (6-10) with 23 points converting 7 of his 20 3-point attempts. Connor Hambelton scored 20 points and was 4 for 8 from beyond the 3-point arc. Nicolaas Kamlade added 13 points for the Lions who shot 39% from both 2-point and 3-point range. MU was 33 of 83 for the night.

Northwest U. remains at home and will host No. 5 Oregon Tech on Friday, Jan. 8 and Southern Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 9 in Cascade Conference play. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. starts.
