PORTLAND, Ore. – Two first-half goals were all the Concordia Cavaliers needed to stretch their string of consecutive shutouts to five with a 2-0 victory over the College of Idaho in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s soccer action on Friday at Delta Park.
The win improves the Cavaliers to 8-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the CCC, while the loss drops the Coyotes to 4-4-0 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Matt Caniglia (San Francisco, Calif./Lebanon H.S.) gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season. Facundo Dipascuale (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Lakebridge H.S.) sent a cross from the left side and Caniglia headed it off the crossbar and in during the 15th minute of play.
Dipascuale also assisted on Concordia’s second goal, when Jordan Correa (Lynnwood, Wash./Meadowdale H.S.) took a pass through the middle and shot from 10 yards out with 9:05 remaining in the first half. Turner Bloom (Honolulu, Hawaii/Southridge H.S.) set up the play with an outlet to Dipascuale which led to the goal from Correa.
The Cavaliers outshot the Coyotes 18-to-15 in the match and finished with nine attempts on goal. Carlos Gomez (Boise, Idaho/Centennial H.S.) led the C of I attack with four shot attempts, two of which were on goal.
Claudio Lazar (Ploiesti, Romania/Minai Viteazul H.S) earned his fifth shutout of the season with seven saves. College of Idaho goalkeeper Aaron Reynolds compiled five saves in the loss, all in the second half.
The Coyotes finished with 22 fouls and a pair of yellow cards, while Concordia had 10 fouls in the contest.
Concordia returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, when the Cavaliers host Warner Pacific at Delta Park. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
