9 Honored as Red Lion Players of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nine student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer and cross country have been honored as Red Lion Players of the Week, the Cascade Collegiate Conference office announced Monday.

Honorees for the period Oct. 4-10 were:

Volleyball

Hitter – The College of Idaho’s Sarah Harris, a 5-10 senior middle blocker from Middleton, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. Harris was instrumental in the No. 17 Yotes’ 3-0 sweep of 12th-ranked Southern Oregon, logging 13 kills with just one error against the Raiders. She followed with a season-high three aces and eight blocks in a win over Oregon Tech. She now has 903 kills, 10th on the all-time C of I list. Honorable mention: Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Anu Akamine, Northwest; Chandra Baskoro, Corban; Megan Bartling, Southern Oregon; Janel Fetters, Northwest Christian; Erika Doremus, Concordia.

Setter – Concordia University’s Lindsay Mangan, a 5-8 freshman from Huntington Beach, Calif., has been named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. Earning the honor for the third consecutive week, Mangan averaged nearly 12 assists per set in a 3-0 sweep of Warner Pacific. She also had four kills, four digs and five block assists. She had 34 assists in a non-conference win over Multnomah. Honorable mention: Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Megan Dees, Corban; Lindsey Stone, Southern Oregon; Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian.

Libero – The Evergreen State College’s Chantal Petkus, a 5-5 junior from West Richland, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Libero of the Week. The CCC leader in digs per game, Petkus registered 56 total digs in a split with Corban and Northwest Christian. She had 38 digs in a 3-1 win over NCU and 18 in a loss to Corban. She averaged eight digs per set. Honorable mention: Whitney Owen, College of Idaho; Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Heather Shulke, Northwest; Bethany Durre, Corban; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Aubrie Concannon, Concordia.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Victor Corona, a 5-9 junior from Milton-Freewater, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. In the Owls’ lone match, Corona had four goals and one assist as OIT defeated Northwest Christian 6-4. Honorable mention: Chris Wilgus, Northwest Christian; Mirza Ramic, Concordia.


Defensive – Northwest University’s Joe Galbraith, a 6-4 sophomore guard from Whitefish, Mont., has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Galbraith turned away five shots in 90 minutes as the Eagles shut out in-state rival Evergreen 1-0. Honorable mention: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; James Myrvold, Corban; Jordan Green, Concordia.

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – The College of Idaho’s Erika Mouritsen, a 5-6 senior forward from Wellsville, Utah, has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. In two matches, Mouritsen had a goal and five assists as the Lady Yotes notched road victories at Northwest and Evergreen. Her four assists vs. Northwest were the most by a C of I player since 2003. Honorable mention: Kori Wilgus, Northwest Christian; Lauren Robideau, Eastern Oregon; Tera McDonough, Corban; Tahlia O’Loughlin, Concordia.

Defensive – Northwest Christian University’s Ali Foster, a 5-7 senior goalkeeper from Roseburg, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Foster recorded 12 saves in a 3-1 loss to No. 1-ranked Concordia, helping NCU to their closest match in five years vs. the Cavaliers. Foster later picked up her school-record fourth shutout in a 2-0 victory over Warner Pacific. Honorable mention: Melissa Holmes, College of Idaho; Alexis Beattie, Corban; Jenna Peterson, Concordia.

Cross Country

Men – The College of Idaho’s Greg Montgomery, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Runner of the Week. Montgomery became the first C of I men’s runner to a win a cross country race in program history, as the 10th-ranked Yotes defeated NCAA Division I Idaho State 25-31 in a dual meet. Running at an elevation of 5,000 feet, Montgomery clocked the second-fastest time (18:48) in course history.

Women – The College of Idaho’s Kayloni Jones, a junior from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Runner of the Week. Jones clocked the second-fastest 4K time ever by a C of I runner at the Centennial Course in Pocatello, Idaho in placing sixth overall against strictly NCAA Division I competition. Jones finished in a time of 16:04.
