Oregon Tech Takes Out Knights
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Megan Christensen and Mindy Rencher combined for 25 kills, as the Oregon Tech volleyball team defeated Warner Pacific College in four sets 25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 25-11 tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech improves to 11-13 overall and 3-9 in the conference standings. Warner Pacific slips to 4-13 on the season and 2-9 in CCC play.
A five point run, spurred by the serving of Kristen Walters, jump started the Owls to a 6-1 lead in set 1. After WPC tied the set at 13-13 the Owls strung together seven in a row and held off the Knights to take the opener 25-18.
Warner Pacific jumped out to a 10-2 lead in set 2, but the Owls would chip away to pull to within three points, 13-10. The Knights took a 20-14 lead, but a 10-4 Owl run tied the set at 24-24. Warner Pacific would put away the next two points to tie the match 1-1 after the 26-24 win.
After a 9-9 tie in set 3, the Owls gained control behind a nine point run, including eight straight service points from Kristen Walters before WPC could gain a point. The Owls would eventually move to a 25-21 win to go up in the match, 2-1.
Tech had all the momentum they needed in set 4, as the Owls jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The Owls pushed their advantage to 19-9 and would take the match with a 25-11 victory in the set.
Megan Christensen came away with a match-high 13 kills, while Mindy Rencher followed with 12. Rencher added a career-high 20 kills, while Marie Baumann finished with a match-high 24 digs to anchor the Tech defense. Kayleigh Whelchel and Sarah Svedin combined for 48 assists in the victory tonight.
Emily Damschen led the Knights with 10 kills, while Samantha Kolakowski, Marissa Towry and Rachel Warick added five kills apiece in the loss. Caitlyn McCall ended the evening with a team-high 18 digs, while setters Whitney Valenta and Melita Elliot combined for 26 assists.
Oregon Tech will host Concordia University tomorrow, while WPC travels to no. 17 ranked Southern Oregon University. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
