11 Recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eleven student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf have been honored as Red Lion Players of the Week, the Cascade Collegiate Conference office announced Monday.
The honorees for the period Oct. 11-17:
Volleyball
Hitter – Southern Oregon University’s Megan Bartling, a 6-2 junior middle blocker from Medford, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. Bartling turned in one of the most impressive statistical performances of the season, hitting .690 in SOU sweeps of third-place Concordia and Warner Pacific. Bartling had 22 kills in 29 swings. Against Concordia, she hit a conference best .786 with 12 kills. Bartling also had 11 blocks on the weekend as the No. 17 Raiders improved to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the CCC. Honorable mention: Sarah Harris, College of Idaho; Chandra Baskoro, Corban; Sarah Stoker, Northwest; Raluca Dinca, Concordia; Mindy Rencher, Oregon Tech.
Setter – Southern Oregon University’s Lindsey Stone, a 5-7 senior from Ashland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. The CCC leader in assists, Stone averaged a season-high 13.2 assists in sweeps of Concordia and Warner Pacific. She helped guide the SOU offense to a .303 attack percentage. Stone also had three blocks and seven digs for the No. 17 Raiders, who improved to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the CCC. Honorable mention: Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Megan Dees, Corban; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian.
Libero – College of Idaho’s Whitney Owen, a 5-11 senior from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Libero of the Week. Owen averaged six digs per set in the Yotes’ wins over Corban and Northwest Christian. She also had a season-high four aces against Corban. No. 14 College of Idaho improved to 15-4 overall and 12-1 in the CCC by extending its win streak to 10 consecutive matches. Honorable mention: Bethany Durre, Corban; Kaitlyn Duncan, Eastern Oregon; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia University’s Jared Brace, a 5-8 sophomore forward from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. Brace scored three of his team’s six goals in 3-0 victories over Northwest Christian and Oregon Tech. He had a pair of goals, including the game-winner, vs. Northwest Christian. Brace’s three goals came on just six shot attempts. The CCC-leading Cavs improved to 11-2 on the season. Honorable mention: Matt Kelly, College of Idaho; Gus Bermudez, Corban; Josh Peters, Northwest; Denton Brown, Northwest Christian.
Defensive – Concordia University’s Shaunovan Wilson, a 6-2 junior defender from Jackson Town, Jamaica, has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Wilson was instrumental in helping the Cavs post shutout victories over Northwest Christian and Oregon Tech. CU ranks sixth nationally in goals-against average (0.46). Wilson also had an assist vs. NCU. Honorable mention: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho; James Myrvold, Corban; Nick Kratzke, Northwest Christian.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Warner Pacific College’s Brittany Johnson, a 5-8 sophomore forward from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. Johnson scored three goals in two matches, including a two-goal effort in a 3-0 win over Evergreen for the Knights’ first CCC victory of the season. Honorable mention: Erika Mouritsen, College of Idaho; Brittany Bowman, Corban; Kelsey Frasier, Northwest; Katie Yarnell, Eastern Oregon; Stephanie Carr, Southern Oregon.
Defensive – Northwest University’s Jordan Holmes, a 5-7 senior goalkeeper from Mountlake Terrace, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. In NU’s only match Holmes held Concordia, the CCC’s scoring leader and NAIA’s No. 1-ranked team, without a goal in a 0-0 overtime tie. Holmes had six saves against the Cavaliers, who had been averaging three goals per game. Honorable mention: Alexis Beattie, Corban; Chantal Schefers, Eastern Oregon; Jessica Kuehlwein, Southern Oregon.
Cross Country
Men – Southern Oregon University’s David Laney, a senior from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Runner of the Week. In earning the honor for the third time this season, Laney captured the individual crown at the Mike Hodges Invitational in Clackamas, finishing the four-mile course in a time of 19:31. He helped lead No. 1-ranked SOU to the team title. Honorable mention: Caleb Goins, Corban; DJ Flores, Eastern Oregon; Juan De La Cruz, Warner Pacific; Cory Pena, Concordia.
Women – Northwest Christian University’s Brittany Arch, a junior from Springfield, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Runner of the Week. Arch set a school record in leading the Beacons to the team title at the Warner Pacific Open, covering the 5K distance in a time of 18:12. NCU swept the top three spots at the event. Honorable mention: Christi Schmitz, Corban; Sarah Hanchett, Eastern Oregon; Seena Frantz, Southern Oregon; Alice Taylor, Concordia.
Golf
Men – Warner Pacific College’s Andrew Johnson, a sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Golfer of the Week. Johnson won his first collegiate event, and became the first medalist in WPC history, by firing rounds of 75-72—147 to win the Corban Invitational at Creekside Golf Club in Salem. Honorable Mention: Chris Dudley, Corban; Jed Dalton, Concordia.
Women – College of Idaho’s Trish Gibbens, a sophomore from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Golfer of the Week. Gibbens, who earned the honor for the third time this season, won the Corban Invitational with a 36-hole total of two-under 142. She also had an ace during the tournament. Gibbens’ total was the first under-par 36-hole total in C of I history. Gibbens leads the NAIA in par-5 scoring and is No. 2 in par-4 scoring. Honorable mention: Caley Hubert, Corban; Ashley King, Northwest Christian; Sunny Powers, Concordia.
