PORTLAND, Ore. – The Warner Pacific men’s soccer team started strong, then hung on for a 3-2 win over Oregon Tech at David Douglas High School today.

Alija Sacirovic registered a hat trick in the contest, scoring all three Knight goals including the game winner in the 83rd minute.

The Knights applied pressure to the Owl defense for most of the first period, outshooting the visitors 15-7. Sacirovic scored his first goal just 3 minutes into the game, finding the mark from close range after a long throw in from Juan Castillo. His second came at 36:07 on a looping header over OIT keeper Tanner Lee, which was started by a long free kick from Tyber Parsons.

The contest seemed to be a foregone conclusion deep into the second period until an OIT player was sent off with a second yellow card in the 73rd minute. Despite being a man down, the Owls were energized and scored two goals with five minutes of each other.

Rey Chevolla took a slotted pass and fired near post from 12 yards for the first goal. Moments later, Hector Jimenez fired a laser from 30 yards to equalize the game with eight minutes remaining.

The Knights were duly stunned back into form, and earned the game winner with an attack down the right flank. Tarik Subasic beat a defender toward the end line, pushed a ball past a diving Lee, and found Sacirovic who hammered in the goal from 6 yards.

Warner Pacific improves to 7-6-1 overall and 7-3-0 in CCC play. Oregon Tech falls to 5-8-1 and 3-6-1.
