PORTLAND Ore.— Behind 19 kills from senior Raluca Dinca, Concordia University swept Corban University 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Friday night.
With the results, Concordia improved to 15-7 on the year and 10-3 in CCC play while Corban fell to 8-8 overall and 5-6 in league contests.
Lindsay Mangan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina H.S.) guided the Cavs to a 25-17 win in the opener with 17 of her match-high 42 assists. After Corban squared the opening set at 6-6, the home side took control by hitting .361 as a team to move onto the eight-point win.
The Cavs kept their momentum in the second set as they never trailed en route to a 2-0 advantage. After a 2-2 score, CU went on a 7-2 run before running away with the 10-point win. Dinca accounted for seven of the team-s 14 kills in the set while Corban was held to a 0.83 hitting rate.
Concordia opened up an 8-4 lead out of the gate in the third before a Corban run capped by a kill from Karisa Calderon (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta H.S.) to close within two points at 10-8. From there, the Cavs held the Warriors at bay before ending the match with a 7-2 streak for the 25-16 win.
Bailey Wold (Spokane, Wash./West Valley H.S.) and Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore./Gresham H.S.) shared the team lead for Corban with seven kills each while Calderon and Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif./Tehachapi H.S.) both registered 10 assists for the team high. Teammate Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore./Mountain View H.S.) collected a match high 12 digs.
Following Dinca’s 19 kills, Clair Thiel (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor H.S.) tallied nine kills, including successful swings on four of five attempts in the first set. Mariah Raudsepp (Dundee, Ore./C.S. Lewis Academy) finished with seven kills and Erika Doremus (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap H.S.) and Sara Harper (Corona, Calif./Santiago H.S.) both had six kills for the Cavs. Harper added a team-high 10 digs for CU.
Concordia outhit the Warriors .340 to .134 and finished with a 41-37 advantage in digs.
Concordia returns to action on Saturday by hosting Northwest University while Corban will face off against Warner Pacific. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m. in Portland.
