Eagles Open Season with Win Over VIU
KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University Eagles kicked off their 2010-11 season in fine fashion with a convincing win over Vancouver Island University, 90-59, in non-conference action tonight.
Five Eagle players scored in double figures tonight led by 6-9 senior, Greg George (Seattle, Wash.), who led the Eagles with 16 points and 14 rebounds to complete the double-double and game high. Newcomer, junior Jordan Call (Kirkland, Wash.), also registered a double-double with his 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Daley Landon (Waterville, Wash.) scored 13 points, while junior guard Ahmaad Cook (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Michael Greene (Bellingham, Wash.) each dropped in 10 points for the Eagles (1-0). NU out rebounded VIU 62-37 including 24 offensive rebounds
VIU (3-1) was led by Andrew Kaban’s 13 points and 6 rebounds. Patrick McCarthy added 11 points and Clayton Billet added 10 points for the Mariners from Nanaimo, BC. VIU was held to 27% shooting in the first half, but heated up in the second, shooting 53%.
"I'm pleased with the way the guys came out and played hard and shared the ball, something we discussed prior to the game," said Eagle Head Coach John Van Dyke. "it was great to start out the season with a win."
NU will now have a break before they play their next game on Nov. 5 when they host Fisher College from Boston, Mass.
