PK Goal by Evergreen Ends Corban's Weekend
BOX SCORE
SALEM, Ore. – In a very evenly played game all around, Corban's men's soccer could not overcome a penalty kick goal in the 51st minute by the visiting Geoducks of The Evergreen State College in a 1-0 loss Saturday on Warrior Field.
With today's result, Corban falls to 5-9-1 overall and 4-7-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Evergreen improves to 3-9-2 overall and 3-7-1 in league games.
Over overcast skies and with the threat of rain all game long, neither team could muster much offense until the 51st minute when Corban was whistled for a foul just inside the penalty area following a pile up around the ball. After the whistle, Evergreen's Corey Johnson set the ball down before rifling a shot into the upper right corner of the goal for the eventual game-winner and the lone score of the contest.
Corban's best scoring chance came with just over 34 minutes remaining the game, as freshman Ibrahim Haruna (Gomby, Nigeria) unleashed a shot that was saved by Evergreen's keeper despite awarding the Warriors one of their nine corner kicks.
The Geoducks' defense would step up the challenge put forth by Corban's offense over the game's final 40-plus minutes and held on for the hard-fought one-goal victory. Freshman goalkeeper James Myrvold (Sandy, Ore.) would register three saves for the host Warriors, while Evergreen's Christian Pettit snagged a game-high four saves en route to picking up the win.
Corban's final road trip of the season will begin on Friday, October 29th, against The College of Idaho at 2:00 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
