PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia outlasted Northwest Christian in a tough third set to complete a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-15, 29-27) in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action Friday night at Cavalier Gymnasium.

With the victory, Concordia improves its season record to 16-7 overall, 11-3 in CCC matches. Northwest Christian falls to 6-17 overall, 2-13 in conference play.

Northwest Christian hung close early in the first set, trailing Concordia by one at 8-7 before the Cavaliers embarked on a 17-3 run that included a pair of seven-point streaks to close out a 25-10 set victory. The Cavaliers hit .389 as a team in the first set, their highest set attack percentage of the night.

Concordia took control of the second set early with a 14-5 run to take a 17-8 lead. Northwest Christian never got closer than seven points back as the Cavs took a 25-15 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

While the first two sets saw a total of three tie scores and no lead changes, the third set changed all that with 12 ties and seven lead changes. The Beacons took their first lead of any set in the match when they won the first point, and they reached a match-high three-point lead at 6-3 and again at 7-4 after a kill from Danielle Nance. Concordia used a five-point streak and a 10-3 run to take a 14-10 lead, marking the Cavs’ biggest lead of the set.

With the Cavs leading 15-11, Northwest Christian scored seven of the next eight points to take an 18-16 lead, but Concordia bounced back with a 6-2 run. The teams tied at 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 points apiece, with Northwest Christian having a match point advantage at 25-24 and 26-25. The Cavaliers held the advantage at 24-23, 27-26 and the decisive 28-27 prior to Aubrie Concannon’s (Portland, Ore./Rex Putnam H.S.) match-ending service ace.

Concordia’s Raluca Dinca (Portland, Ore./David Douglas H.S.) and Clair Thiel (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor H.S.) tied with a match-high 12 kills, while Lindsay Mangan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina H.S.) contributed 24 assists.
 
Northwest Christian’s Janel Fetters (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo, H.S.) finished with 11 kills, the only Beacon to reach double figures. Cori Wallace (Klamath Falls, Ore./Henley H.S.) posted 20 assists for the visitors.

The Cavaliers visit Evergreen for their next match, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Olympia, Wash. Northwest Christian will host Multnomah Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
