Head Coach Niki Taylor picked up her 50th career win
CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho head coach Niki Taylor picked up her 50th collegiate win, as the Lady Yotes used three second half goals to put away Trinity Lutheran College, 4-1, at frigid Simplot Stadium.
Despite a 45-5 edge in total shots, the Lady Yotes (9-7) were locked in a 1-1 tie until the 65th minute, when Macy Egerman collected a pass just outside the 18-yard line and cracked a shot into the upper corner of the net to give The C of I the lead for good.
The Coyotes would continue the pressure against the short-handed Eagles (2-5-1), as Erika Mouritsen flicked home a feed from Jordan Huttash in the 80th minute, and Sarah Hicks scored in the waning moments, blasting home a one-time cross from Amanda Boyce.
It was not easy for the Yotes – despite playing a TLC team with just eight players. The C of I did not get their first shot attempt until seven minutes into the game, with Eagles keeper Savannah Wood coming up with multiple saves from point-blank range in the opening stanza. The hosts would find the net first in the 11th minute, as Jamie Reichel slotted home a rebound of a Jessica Ayala shot that eluded Wood.
TLC would get the equalizer in the final five minutes of the half. With a 25 mile-per-hour gale at their back, the Eagles played a long ball behind the Coyote defense, earning a corner kick. Briann Oostinga played the corner to the far post, with Stephanie Gonzalez heading the ball into the right corner of the net to tie the game.
Wood had 14 saves in the loss for the Eagles, as the Coyotes had an 18-1 edge in shots on goal. It was a clean game, as only three fouls were called in the contest.
Taylor now has a 50-33-7 record in her five years at The C of I – having won more games than any other coach in Lady Yote soccer history.
The Lady Yotes close out the regular season on Saturday at Eastern Oregon, needing a win to secure a spot in the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament.
