The Geoducks gained another conference win and a tie, brining their Conference record to 2-3-1.
OLYMPIA, Wash. – Evergreen men’s soccer won one game and tied another to two visiting Cascade Conference schools this past weekend. The Geo’s took on Northwest Christian University on Friday, winning 2-0. The next day they took on the Oregon Tech and carried the game into a double overtime tie with a score of 1-1.
Kodey Eley’s coming out party was held on Friday on the pitch at The Evergreen State College. Freshman defender Eley (FR / Federal Way, WA) had a goal and an assist in the Geoduck’s 2-0 victory over the visiting Beacons. Evergreen put together a fantastic overall defensive performance allowing only three shots on the day. Evergreen’s Senior Goalkeeper Casey Collins (SR / Seattle, WA) continued his fine play recording three saves for his first shut out of the season. The Geoducks took control of the game when Eley found striker Corey Johnson (JR / Longview, WA) in front of the Beacon goal with a driven diagonal ball at the 70 minute mark. Johnson showed his quality with a soft first touch and a cool finish for the eventual game winner. This followed some high anxiety as Beacon keeper Nick Kratzke’s earlier save of a Brice Boum (SO / Lacey, WA) penalty kick had temporarily buoyed the visitors. Eley led the charge to finish the game after racing the length of the field on the counter in the 83rd minute of play. Eley received from George Bundy (SO / Olympia, WA), out paced the last defender and slotted the ball to the far post to salt the game away.
The Geoducks played host to the Hustling Owls of Oregon Tech on Saturday on the campus of The Evergreen State College. An emotional roller coaster of a day was in store for the home town faithful. A game that started with few real chances in the first half grew more and more tense and unpredictable over its span. Early in the second half Geoduck striker Kevin Bourland (SR / Denver, CO) was brought down in the box. Chris Miller (JR / Auburn, WA) finished the spot kick to put the Geoducks on top 1-0. Evergreen pressed the attack and threw wave after wave forward in search of a second goal. In the final minute of play the visitors caught the Geoducks on the counter and found their way forward for a corner. Oscar Alonso Ayala finished neatly to sending the game into extra time. Evergreen again went forward in attack garnering three shots on goal in the first overtime period. The second 10 minute extra frame saw the Geoducks lose steam. The Owls looked to get the big break as keeper Casey Collins was called for a foul in the box. Evergreen looked as though they would concede all three points. In the final act of crazy affair, Collins stretched far to his left to parry the shot wide.
Evergreen will play away next Saturday against Northwest University in Kirkland, WA.
