OLYMPIA, Wash. – The visiting Moutaineers of Eastern Oregon University defeated the Geoducks 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 26-13) Friday night at the Evergreen Gymnasium on the campus of The Evergreen State College. The Geoducks fell again on Saturday to College of Idaho, losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-5, 25-11).

On Friday night, following a close first set, the Geoducks rallied from a seven point deficit to push the second set into extra points, but couldn’t overcome the varied Mountaineer attack.  Set three belonged entirely to Eastern Oregon as they outhit Evergreen State .220 to -.026 to claim the victory.  For the Geoducks, Caitlin Swift (Senior/Seattle, WA) hit .353 for the match, contributing eight kills on 17 swings.  Defensively, Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) led the Geoducks with a match-high 15 digs.  For the Mountaineers, Irene Walters and Taylor Stewart each had 10 kills on the night.  The Geoducks return to action in the CRC Gymnasium on Saturday night, taking on the 17th-ranked Coyotes from the College of Idaho.  The match is slated to being at 7pm.

Evergreen State took on the visiting Coyotes from the College of Idaho Saturday night, losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-5, 25-11). The Geoducks battled in the first set but the late rally fell just short. The Coyotes controlled the match from that point forward, allowing only eight kills by the Geoducks for the remainder of the contest. Jasmine Horton (Junior/Seattle, WA) led Evergreen State with seven kills on 19 swings. Chantal Petkus (Junior/Richland, WA) again led the defense with 14 digs for the match. The Geoducks will be home again next weekend to start the second round of conference play.
