EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest University became just the second Cascade Collegiate Conference school that Northwest Christian has gone undefeated against in a season, after the teams tied 1-1 on Friday afternoon. Senior Chris Wilgus scored the lone goal for the Beacons, enough to secure a draw and one point in the CCC standings.
Last Weekend the Beacons finished off a sweep of Corban University and on Friday the Beacons secured a 1-0-1 season against the Eagles after knocking off NU in Kirkland earlier this season, 2-1 in overtime. All-told, the schools have now played a combined 209 minutes against each other this year.
Wilgus’ score came in the 23rd minute. T.J. Prentice fired a shot that was blocked and saved by Northwest keeper Joe Galbraith. Wilgus was there to collect the rebound and punched in the score past a scrambling keeper.
NCU held the 1-0 lead until the 56th minute when Northwest connected on the equalizer. A Kyle Tatro pass inside the box found Luke Fisher. Fisher, the Eagles leading scorer on the season, finished with a 5-yard strike to knot the game.
The Beacons move to 6-9-1 on the season, including a 3-8-1 mark in the CCC. The 10 points scored in the conference standings is the highest in school history for Northwest Christian. Northwest shifts to 8-7-1, 5-6-1 in the conference, holding onto fourth place.
Northwest Christian outshot the Eagles 19-14 in the game and held NU to just four shots on goal as Beacon keeper Nick Kratzke was forced into making three saves. Wilgus and Denton Brown had six shot attempts each for NCU.
The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday night, playing host to The Evergreen State College at 7:00 pm.
