Eagles Stop MSUN in Tourney Play
HAVRE, Mont. - Emily Drivstuen scored 28 points as the Northwest University Eagles knocked off tournament host, Montana State-Northern, 86-77, this afternoon in the Skylights tournament.
Last night, it was cold shooting that plagued NU, but it was a different story this afternoon as the Eagles shot a blistering 54% from 2 point range and hit 50% of their 3 pointers (4-8) as they took a 41-33 lead into the locker room at the half.
MSUN would stay close for a good part of the second half, Northwest (1-1) heated up to hit 61% of their shots (14-23) from 2 point range and 80% of their treys to maintain the lead and come away with the victory.
Along with Drivstuen's game high 28 points, teammate Jessalyn Jackson added 18 points, and Kia Gibson contributed 12 points for the Eagles.
MSUN's Taylor Keller and Samm Schermele combined for 49 of their teams' points as Keller ended the game with 27 and Schermele dropped in 22. MSUN held the rebounding edge 28-24.
"I was really proud of our kids' effort and attitude in all aspects of the game today," said NU Head Coach Lori Napier. "It was a great team win."
NU wraps up play tomorrow as they play Carroll College. It will be the second meeting in three days as Carroll defeated NU on Thrusday night, 66-53.
