Mountaineer Men Win Easy in Record Breaking Performance

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 18 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team broke a Cascade Collegiate Conference record scoring 146 points in a 146-63 win at Multnomah University.

Eastern (2-0) broke the conference record in most points scored by a team in a single game (146). Northwest University had the previous mark at 136 points scored last season against Multnomah. The Mountaineers’ 77 rebounds are the third highest in a single game in conference history, and the 51 total field goals made matches the fifth-highest in league history.

EOU’s Jamar Johnson led all scorers, and seven Mountaineers that finished scoring in double digits, with 22 points. The junior was 8 for 12 from the field. JC Cook added 19 points, while Thomas McCarthy had 18 points. McCarthy made six three-pointers Friday night and five Saturday.

Travares Peterson and Cody Thurmond finished with 16 and 15 points. Robert Barrington added 12 points and Jeff Ranstrom scored 10. Ranstrom had a game-high nine rebounds as well. Josh Cottle had a game-high seven assists.

Eastern Oregon controlled the lead throughout the game and led at halftime, 72-27. The Mountaineers have scored 248 points in its first two regular season games, which is the most points scored in back-to-back games in EOU history and currently leads NAIA Div. 2. Eastern is averaged a 124 to 64 win after its first weekend of the season.

The Mountaineers made 52 percent of their 98 shots from the field, and hit 16 of their 34 three-point attempts in the game. Multnomah made 7 of its 37 three-pointers, and 19 of its 70 shots from the field. Chris Haynes led the Lions with 20 points and Gian Cook added 18. EOU outrebounded MU, 77-24. Eastern had 34 assists to Multnomah’s 12.

EOU welcomes Montana Tech, Walla Walla University, and The College of Idaho to the Aramark Quinn Classic next weekend in La Grande.
