KIRKLAND, Wash. – The College of Idaho got a hat trick from Kelly Hardegree-Ullman as they cruised to a 4-1 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest University this afternoon in Kirkland.

All three of Hardegree-Ullman’s goals came after Northwest took a 1-0 lead on Chelsi Pennington’s (Soph., Kent, Wash.) goal at the 22:04 mark. C of I’s senior Erika Mourtisen (Wellsville, Utah) had four assists on the day for the College of Idaho (5-5, 2-1 CCC).

Hardegree-Ullman (Boise, Idaho) took a through-ball from Mouritsen in the 33rd minute and lined a low shot past NU keeper Jordan Holmes (Sr., Mountlake Terrace, Wash.)  to tie the game. Just before halftime, the duo connected again, as Mouritsen played a ball to the top of the 18, where Hardegree-Ullman cracked a liner past Holmes to give the Yotes the lead for good.

Early in the second half, Mouritsen made a run inside the Eagles box touching a pass to an unmarked Hardegree-Ullman, who tapped home the score. The Yotes would cap the scoring in the 63rd minute, as Jamie Reichel (Boise, Idaho) knocked home a rebound of a Mouritsen shot with a sliding effort, pushing the margin to 4-1.

Northwest outshot C of I 15-9 but it was Hardegree-Ullman and Reichel finding the mark with their goals. Freshman Melissa Holmes (Antioch, Calif) had 6 saves in goal for C of I while NU goalkeeper, Holmes managed to stop one Coyote shot on goal.

It was the Coyotes first hat trick since the 2007 season and their first four-assist game since 2003.

Pennington’s goal for Northwest U. (4-2-2, 1-1 CCC) was unassisted.

Northwest U. remains at home on Saturday to host Eastern Oregon, a 2-0 winner over Evergreen State and C of I travels to Olympia to take on Evergreen State.
