KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University scored early in the first half and held on for a 1-0 shut out victory over in-state rival, Evergreen State College, today in Cascade Conference play. The game was played in a steady rain.

Junior forward, James Kerr (Bothell, Wash.), scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from teammate Luke Fischer (Jr., Kalispell, Mont.) 18 minutes into the first half. Both defenses toughened up the remainder of the game and neither team would score the remaining 72 minutes.

The Egales (6-5. 3-4 CCC) out shot Evergreen State (2-6-2, 2-4-1 CCC) 12-11 as Evergreen's Casey Collins had 5 saves in goal for the Geoducks. Joe Galbraith (Soph., Whitefish, Mont.) earned the shut out with 5 saves in goal for the Eagles.

"It was an important win for us today," stated NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh." The guys worked hard and did what they had to do to get the victory. Joe (Galbraith) was great in goal. He commanded the box and made good decisions. Joe also came up with a huge save late in the second half on a incredible shot. It was good to see the defense step up and get their second shutout. We need to be able to win games when only scoring one goal and we showed today that we're capable of doing that. We'll take a few days off and back at it on Tuesday," McIntosh concluded.
