Greg Montgomery won today's CI-ISU Dual in Pocatello
POCATELLO, Idaho - Greg Montgomery became the first College of Idaho individual meet champion, as the Coyote men knocked off NCAA Division I Idaho State in a head to head dual meet this morning on the Centennial Course.
The Coyotes, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, recorded four of the top six finishers in the 6,000-meter race, defeating the Bengals, 25-31. Montgomery, an NAIA All-American last season as a freshman, traversed the course in 18:48, eight-seconds ahead of ISU’s Ryan Davis.
Paul Sartin had a career-best third-place finish for the Yotes (19:05) and Dominic Bolin took fourth (19:08) – as The C of I recorded their fastest team time in their sixth trip to Eastern Idaho.
The Lady Yotes were locked in a three-way meet with Big Sky Conference power, Idaho State, and Western Athletic Conference stalwart, Utah State, finishing third to the Division I schools.
For the second-straight race, Kayloni Jones was the top Coyote finisher, taking sixth in 16:04, while a pack of C of I runners were in places 11 through 13 – Kristine Smith (16:23), Sora Klopfenstein (16:29), and Hillary Holt (16:30).
Head coach Pat McCurry said, “Was really impressed by how the ladies bounced back this week – our top four times were faster than the second-fastest time we ever ran on this course.”
The Yotes will take next week off, preparing for their lone home race of the season, the Coyote Twilight at Fairview Golf Course on Oct. 21.
