7 Recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Seven Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes in the sports of volleyball and soccer have been honored as Red Lion Players of the Week for the period Oct. 25-31, the conference office announced Monday.

This week's honorees:

Volleyball

Hitter – Southern Oregon University’s Sarah Holgen, a 5-9 junior outside hitter from Honolulu, Hawaii, has been named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. Holgen had a huge weekend for the 17th-ranked Raiders, averaging 5.5 kills, 3.5 digs and hitting .466 in 56 swings as SOU posted sweeps of Corban and Northwest Christian. SOU improved to 18-3 overall and 15-1 in the CCC with the victories. Honorable mention: Sarah Harris, College of Idaho; Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Taylor Stewart, Eastern Oregon; Bailey Wold, Corban; Clair Thiel, Concordia.

Setter – Southern Oregon’s Lindsey Stone, a 5-7 senior from Ashland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. Stone had one of her best statistical weekends of the season, averaging 12 assists in sweeps of Corban and Northwest Christian. Stone, who led the Raiders to a .264 attack percentage, leads the CCC and ranks fifth nationally in assists. Honorable mention: Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Lindsay Mangan, Concordia; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Megan Dees, Corban; Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian.

Libero – Northwest University’s Heather Shulke, a 5-6 junior from Castle Rock, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Libero of the Week. Shulke, who ranks second in the CCC in digs, was the match leader in digs in contests vs. Warner Pacific and Concordia, totaling 25 in each match. Honorable mention: Whitney Owen, College of Idaho; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Bethany Durre, Corban; Aubrie Concannon, Concordia.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Dylan Durrell, a 6-0 senior midfielder from Sherwood, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. In a Senior Day victory over Northwest, Durrell scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as the Hustlin’ Owls posted a 5-1 victory. Honorable mention: Luke Fischer, Northwest; Jared Brace, Concordia.

Defensive – College of Idaho’s Aaron Reynolds, a 6-0 junior goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Reynolds totaled 11 saves in 200 minutes of shutout action, registering a season-high nine stops in a 0-0 tie against 26th-ranked Concordia. Honorable mention: Claudio Lazar, Concordia; Nick Kratzke, Northwest Christian.

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Northwest University’s Kelsey Frasier, a 5-6 freshman forward from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. Frasier, who leads the Eagles with eight goals and 18 points this season, had a hat trick plus an assist in a 5-0 victory over Northwest Christian University. Her goals came within 2 ½ minutes, as she scored at the 1:59, 2:59 and 3:30 marks of the first half. Honorable mention: Sarah Hicks, College of Idaho; Mauriana Gonzalez, Eastern Oregon; Kaitlyn Tebbs, Concordia; Emily Tsugawa, Corban.

Defensive – Corban University’s Erin Stokes, a 5-8 senior midfielder from Ephrata, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Stokes anchored a Corban defense which did not allow a goal, as the Warriors posted victories over Evergreen (5-0) and Northwest (1-0). Corban secured the No. 2 seed in the CCC’s postseason tournament. Honorable mention: Brittany Orr, Concordia.
