MORAGA, Calif. - Clint Steindl scored a game-high 20 points, as Saint Mary’s College opened up the 2010-11 season with an 86-42 victory over The College of Idaho inside McKeon Pavilion.

The NCAA Division I Gaels (1-0), coming off an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of last season’s National Tournament, held the NAIA Coyotes without a made field goal over an eight minute period of the first half – breaking open an 11-8 game with a 26-4 run, taking a 41-19 lead at the half.

The Yotes, playing the game as one of two allotted exhibition games, got back-to-back buckets from Krispin Banks to open the second half, but could not get any closer – as 33 C of I turnovers doomed the visitors.

Steindl hit 6-of-14 three-point attempts on the night, while Kenton Walker had 14 points, Rob Jones added 11, and Mitchell Young had ten points and eight rebounds. Guard Stephen Holt scored nine points, but registered nine steals against the Coyotes young guards.

Kelly McCarty came off the bench to score 14 points and grab five rebounds for the Coyotes, with Matt Ballenger adding ten in the loss.

The C of I returns home next weekend, hosting the 24th Annual Duane Wolfe Memorial Golden Rule Shootout. The Yotes will be joined by Warner Pacific, Montana Western, and Westminster for the Friday-Saturday event.
