More than 2,000 participants, coaches, support staff and fans are expected in the Portland-Vancouver area this week for the 2010 NAIA Cross Country National Championships, which will be held Saturday at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

PORTLAND, Ore. – For the second straight year, some of the nation’s top small-college distance runners will descend on the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

The Cascade Collegiate Conference office and CCC member Concordia University (Ore.) are the official event hosts.

The championship races, featuring nearly 700 student-athletes from 130 institutions, are scheduled for this Saturday at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. The women’s 5K is at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by the men’s 8K at 11:45 a.m.

Admission to the event is free. Fans are encouraged to park along 5th Street (which borders the south side Fort Vancouver).

A post-meet championship awards ceremony will be held following the meet at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Wash.
