LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team cruised past Walla Walla University in the fourth game of the 2010 Aramark Holiday Classic, 77-35, Saturday.
The Mountaineers (4-1) were led by three double digit scores, Kyle Miller had 14 points, Nicole Redd had 12, and Kelsea Hurliman had 11.
Eastern shot 44 percent from the field in the win. EOU made 10 of its 21 three-point attempts. The Mountaineers have now made 49 three-pointers this season in five games. Eastern Oregon made 7 of its 14 free throw attempts.
Samantha Flett and Stevie Isaac led the Mountaineers with six rebounds each. Flett had a game-high six assists and three steals. Walla Walla’s Nicke Parks had a game-high nine rebounds. EOU outrebounded the Wolves, 43-29, and had a 23-5 advantage in assists.
Parks finished with a team-high 11 points, while Chelsea Sims added 10 points. WWU shot 29 percent from the field, and were held to 0 for 2 shooting from behind the perimeter. The Wolves made 7 of their 8 free throw attempts.
After a 5-4 score in favor of EOU, the Mountaineers broke the game open with an 18-2 run. Eastern led by as many as 20 points in the first half and led 32-14 at halftime. EOU’s largest lead was 44 points twice late in the game.
Hurliman and Parks were named to the All-Tournament Team. Hurliman finished the Classic with 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 three-pointers. Parks had 22 points and 13 rebounds in her two games. Montana Western’s Chloe Mosey was named to the team with 36 points and 19 rebounds.
The College of Idaho placed two players on the team after sweeping in its two games. Dayna Drager scored 41 points and shot 16 of 27 from the field in the tournament. Nicole Gall was named Tournament MVP for the second straight season after totaling 50 points in two games. She was two points shy of tying the classic record for total points. The senior did break the record for most three-pointers made in the tournament with 10.
