SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball improved to 5-1 on the season with a 70-55 win at Willamette University Monday.

The Mountaineers finished with four double-digit scorers led by Nicole Redd’s 15 points. The freshman was 5 for 11 from the field and 3 of 8 from behind the perimeter. Vintea Georges and Rosebud Guthrie each had 11 points. Kelsea Hurliman finished with 10 points.

Eastern’s Kyle Miller finished with a game-high six assists and a team-high eight rebounds. Kaileigh Westermann had a double-double to lead the Bearcats with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. MacKenzie Lamson added 10 points and Shayna Glynn had 11 rebounds.

Willamette (0-3) began the game with a 5-0 lead, but EOU had its largest lead with 8:40 left in the first half at 23-15. The Bearcats took a 36-35 lead early into the second half, but a Redd three-pointer with 4:45 left in the game gave Eastern Oregon its largest lead of the game, 68-44.

The Mountaineers outscored Willamette, 26-15, in points off of turnovers and 22-13 in bench points. The Bearcats outscored EOU, 20-14, in points in the paint. Eastern turned the ball over 14 times, compared to Willamette’s 23 turnovers. Eastern had 17 assists in the game, while Willamette had 12.

Eastern Oregon shot 36 percent from the field and made 8 of its 29 three-point attempts. EOU was 18 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Bearcats were 38 percent from the field, 15 percent from behind the perimeter, and 5 of 10 from the free-throw line.


The Mountaineers travel to Florida for a pair of games over Thanksgiving weekend. EOU plays in the Warrior Turkey Shootout hosted by Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla. Eastern plays Warner University (Fla.) Friday at 3 p.m. PT and Webber International Saturday at 4 p.m. PT.
