Kelly McCarty scored 14 in Coyotes loss to Westmont
ATHERTON, Calif. - Woeful second half shooting doomed The College of Idaho men’s basketball team, as the Coyotes saw a halftime lead evaporate in a 69-54 loss to Westmont College, this afternoon at the Lamont Ramsey Classic.
Leading 36-34 at halftime, the Coyotes (2-7) converted just 4-of-22 shots in the second half – losing their fifth-straight game. The C of I converted just one field goal in the first ten minutes of the final 20 minutes, yet trailed just 48-44 after a Matt Ballenger trey with 8:07 remaining. Unfortunately, the Yotes would make just one field goal in a seven minute stretch, as the Warriors (5-1) used a 21-7 run to put the game away.
The Yotes fell behind early 18-8, but a pair of treys from Duncan Koga and seven points from Kelly McCarty helped The C of I storm back with a 15-4 spurt, taking a 34-28 lead late in the first half.
McCarty led the Yotes with 14 points, with Krispin Banks adding 12 and Koga scoring a career-high nine points.
Four Westmont players scored in double-figures, led by 13 points and eight rebounds from Blake Bender. Marlow Brooks had 11 points, while Dan Rasp and Preston Branson each had ten.
The Coyotes return home to open up Cascade Conference play on Friday night, hosting Northwest University at 5:30 p.m.
