Northwest Cruises Past Fisher
KIRKLAND, Wash. – #16 Northwest U. used balanced scoring and defense as they cruised past Fisher College of Boston, Mass. (RV), 91-57, tonight in non-conference play.
Fisher’s only lead in the game would be 4-0, a minute into the game as Northwest would re-take the lead at 5-4 on a 3-pointer by Daley Landon at the 17:22 mark. With NU up by four, 21-17 with 9:31 left in the half, the Eagles would go on a 11-0 run capped off by a three point play by Greg Peters and a layup by Jason Waltman to lead 32-17 with 6:55 remaining in the half. NU’s defense would only allow 10 more Fisher points while scoring 15 of their own to take a commanding 48-27 lead at the half.
Northwest would maintain their lead the entire second half and build their lead to 31 points after layups by Greg Peters and Michael Greene to make it, 63-32 with 15:12 to go in the game. The Eagles would keep Fisher at a distance the remainder of the way for their second win of the season. Fisher dropped to 1-1 after a 123-54 opening season win over Univ. of Maine, Augusta.
Junior Jordan Call (Kirkland, Wash.) led Northwest (2-0) with 16 points and 4 assists. 6-8 Senior Greg Peters (Belmont, St. Vincent) followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double, while teammate Daley Landon (Sr., Waterville, Wash.) dropped in 12 including four 3-point field goals. 6-9 Senior Greg George (Seattle, Wash.) finished the night with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Eleven out of the 12 NU players scored as the team finished the night with 21 assists. NU outrebounded Fisher, 51-43
Fisher's (1-1) leading scorer was Louis Williams who finished with a game high 25 points. Dennis Norford scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Falcons and Fisher’s second leading scorer Casey Pursell (Seattle, Wash., Nathan Hale HS) was held scoreless on the night.
"It was a solid team effort tonight," stated Coach John Van Dyke following the game. "It was a good second game for us and everyone contributed. We'll need efforts like this to carry us throughout the season. Fisher is a good team from the east and is expected to finish at the top of their league this year."
Northwest U. now prepares for an exhibition contest with NCAA D-II, Seattle Pacific on Tuesday night in Seattle. The contest will not count against NU's season record.
