CU Falls to Rocky Mountain 76-64

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Danielle Clauson’s 26 points and 14 rebounds were not enough as Concordia lost to Rocky Mountain 76-64 Saturday afternoon at the Westminster Tournament.
The loss dropped Concordia’s record to 0-2 to start the season after the Cavs fell in both games at the tournament.
Concordia hung with Rocky Mountain early, but the Cavaliers’ final lead of the contest came less than three minutes into the game at 7-6. The Cavs kept it close for most of the first half, pulling within one on several occasions before Rocky Mountain began to pull away in the last five minutes of the period to take a 43-35 lead at the break.
The Cavaliers scored the first four points of the second half to pull within four, but Rocky Mountain went on an 11-1 run over the next four minutes to take control with a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish. Sarah Eischen (Hillsboro, Ore./Hillsboro H.S.) scored eight of her 13 points in the second half and grabbed all nine of her rebounds in the period.
Clauson (Edmonds, Wash./Kings H.S.) shot 12-of-21 from the field in the game, but the Cavs struggled as a team from the field, shooting 37.9 percent to Rocky Mountain’s 44.1 percent. Four Rocky Mountain players reached double-figures in the scoring column, led by Amie Jensen’s 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Concordia returns home to play a Monday night game Nov. 8, hosting Westmont College at 7:30 p.m. in Cavalier Gymnasium.
