7 Earn Red Lion Player of the Week Honors
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Seven student-athletes in the sports of volleyball, men's soccer, men's basketball and women's basketball have been honored as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances from Nov. 1-7.
The honorees:
Volleyball
Hitter – Southern Oregon University’s Sarah Holgen, a 5-10 junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, has been named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. In two matches last week, Holgen registered 32 kills and 27 digs as the No. 16-ranked Raiders posted 3-0 victories over Evergreen and Northwest. The two wins, the seventh and eighth consecutive victories for SOU, clinched a share of the CCC regular season championship for the Raiders. Honorable mention: Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Ciciley Fox, College of Idaho; Raluca Dinca, Concordia; Cassie Bishop, Northwest Christian; Chandra Baskoro, Corban.
Setter – Southern Oregon University’s Lindsey Stone, a 5-9 senior from Ashland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. Stone, one of the national leaders in assists, averaged 13.5 assists per game and 40.5 per game as the Raiders swept Evergreen and Northwest. Stone also was credited with 14 digs, four blocks, and one ace. SOU earned a share of the CCC regular season title with the two victories. Libero – College of Idaho’s Whitney Owen, a 5-11 senior from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Libero of the Week. Owen had 43 digs and a pair of aces as the Yotes defeated Concordia and Warner Pacific to earn a share of the CCC regular season championship. Honorable mention: Aubrie Concannon, Concordia; Bethany Durre, Corban; Becky Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Caitlyn McCall, Warner Pacific.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Northwest University’s Luke Fischer, a 6-0 sophomore forward from Kalispell, Mont., has been named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. In NU’s lone match last week, Fischer had a hat trick – including the golden goal in the second overtime – as the Eagles defeated in-state rival Evergreen 4-3. His three goals moved him into a tie for first in the CCC in goals scored (9) during conference play. Honorable mention: Matt Kelly, College of Idaho; Michael Chamberlain, Concordia; Denton Brown, Northwest Christian.
Defensive – Concordia University’s Shaunovan Wilson, a 6-2 junior defender from Jackson Town, Jamaica, has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. A central defender, Wilson scored two goals, including his third penalty kick of the season, in CU’s victory over Corban. Defensively, Wilson helped the Cavs post their school-record 14th shutout of the season. Honorable mention: Erik Carrazco, Northwest Christian.
Basketball
Men’s – Corban University’s Erik Cronrath, a 6-8 junior forward from Battle Ground, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Player of the Week. In two games, Cronrath totaled 42 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals as the Warriors posted road victories over Simpson University (Calif.) and Holy Names University (Calif.). Cronrath sank 13 of 17 shots from the field and 16 of 22 attempts from the free throw line. Honorable mention: Kelly McCarty, College of Idaho; Thomas McCarthy, Eastern Oregon; Greg Peters, Northwest; Joseph Foster, Oregon Tech.
Women’s –College of Idaho’s Nicole Gall, a 5-11 senior guard from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Player of the Week. In C of I’s lone game last week, Gall scored 33 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and recorded seven steals in an 88-70 victory over Great Falls (Mont.). It was Gall’s fifth career game with 30 or more points. Honorable mention: Emily Drivstuen, Northwest; Danielle Clauson, Concordia; Lori Renner, Northwest Christian; Brittany Cherry, Oregon Tech; Kelsey Mattsen, Warner Pacific; Katie Steigleman, Corban.
