LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team recently signed Bobbi Sumpter for the 2011 season.

“We actually signed Bobbi as a junior because we were so impressed with her maturity and leadership abilities,” EOU volleyball head coach Hailey Pearce said. “I think she’s a very talented player. She will benefit us on and off of the court. Bobbi is a great student and a true leader.”

Sumpter has played on the varsity roster at Bishop Kelly High School in Eagle, Idaho all four seasons while in high school. As a freshman she was part of the state academic champions team. She was named second team All-Conference and received the state sportsmanship award her sophomore season. Sumpter was team captain as a junior and named honorable mention All-Conference.

In 2010, Sumpter was named first team All-Conference as the Bishop Kelly team captain. She led BKHS to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament and a district championship. Sumpter also played in the Idaho senior all-star game this past season. The 5-7 athlete has played club volleyball since she was in the sixth grade.

The daughter of Mike and Kriste Sumpter would like to major in Business and Health Administration at Eastern Oregon. Sumpter’s father, Mike, played college baseball at Cal Poly and College of the Desert.

“I chose Eastern because I love the coach and the team,” Sumpter said. “I also wanted to be close to my parents so they could come watch me play.”
