Turnovers Plague Owls in Conference Home Opener Loss

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho forced 23 turnovers and used a 15-0 run to begin the second half to defeat Oregon Tech by a 73-53 final tonight in the Owls’ conference home opener. 

Oregon Tech falls to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference standings. College of Idaho moves to 7-6 on the season and 2-1 in CCC play.

Morgan Hofman led the Owls with 13 points, while grabbing five rebounds and handing out three assists in the loss for Tech. Aundrea Albright and Karissa Dixon finished with 10 points each.

Katelin Shannon led four Yotes in double figures with 14 points to go with six rebounds. Nicole Bruce added 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists, followed by Brianna Hansen with 12 points and Rachel Rasmussen with 10.

It was all College of Idaho from the beginning, as the Yotes moved out to a 10 point lead, 16-6, behind solid pressure defense in the first six minutes of play. Oregon Tech fell behind by 15 points, their largest deficit of the first half, with just over eight minutes, 27-12.

The Owls managed to cut the C of I lead to 35-28 and would go into the intermission with a manageable nine point deficit.

The Yotes, however, opened up the second stanza on a 15-0 run and would not allow an Owl basket until 13:26 on the clock.

The Owls would trail by as many as 24 points, but would never get closer than 16, falling by a 73-53 final.

Oregon Tech takes on No. 20 Eastern Oregon University beginning at 7:30 PM Saturday.
