ATHERTON, Calif. – Three Warriors scored in double figures led by junior Katie Steigleman with a game-high 22 points, as Corban's women's basketball team opened up a three-game Northern California road trip with a convincing 76-59 over Menlo Friday inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
Along with Steigleman, senior Jennesa Miller tallied 19 points and a game-high tying 13 rebounds to go along with sophomore Tess Bennett's 10 points. On the boards, Miller was aided by Steigleman and Bennett with seven rebounds each to go along with sophomore Emily Tsugawa's game-high eight assists while running the Warriors' offense.
Corban would jump out to a 14-point halftime lead (36-22) thanks to 41.7% (15-for-36) shooting from the field over the opening twenty minutes. Meanwhile, Menlo was held to just 25.0% (8-for-32) shooting in the first half and would knot the game twice at 6-6 and 11-11 over the opening twenty minutes.
In the second half, both teams shot over 35.0% from the field with Corban making 16 field goals compared to Menlo's 15. The Warriors would outscore the host Oaks by a mere three points (40-37) en route to capturing the 17-point win (76-59).
Menlo was led offensively by Brittany Taylor's 18 points, while Erika Garcia added 12 and Kelsey Grozier pulled down a game-high tying 13 rebounds.
As a team, Corban shot a combined 31-for-73 (42.5%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-14 (35.7%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 9-for-15 (60.0%) performance from the free throw line. On the other hand, Menlo was 23-for-70 (32.9%) from the field, 4-for-12 (33.3%) from long distance, and 9-for-13 (69.2%) at the charity stripe.
With tonight's result, Corban improves to 6-5 overall and Menlo falls to 5-7 on its season. The Warriors will return to the court tomorrow night – Saturday, December 18th – against Bethany University beginning at 5:00 p.m. in Scotts Valley, California.
