Kia Gibson led NU with 14 points in the win
CALDWELL, Idaho - Brittney Marshall converted an eight-foot running bank-shot with 51-seconds to break a 44-44 tie, as Northwest University defeated The College of Idaho, 50-49, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
In a game that featured 73 missed shots and 54 turnovers, the Eagles (6-3, 1-0 CCC) logged the win, despite making just 4-of-8 free throws in the final minute.
NU jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, before the Lady Yotes (4-5, 0-1) rallied to cut the margin to 27-25 at the break. The C of I took their first lead of the night at 36-34 on a Katelin Shannon runner, grabbing their biggest lead at 40-37 on a Brianna Hansen jumper with 5:31 left, but could not hold on.
Post Kia Gibson led NU with 14 points and ten rebounds, with Marshall scoring nine – the Eagles second-straight win over C of I in Caldwell.
Shannon had a game-high 15 points for the Coyotes, with Rachel Rasmussen coming off the bench to score ten. Leading scorer, Nicole Gall, was held to just seven points and committed 12 turnovers – as The C of I dropped their third-straight home game and lost their conference opener for the first time since 2005-06.
The Lady Yotes return to the court tomorrow, hosting Evergreen State, at 7:30 p.m.
