Concordia Defeats Oregon Tech to Win 10th Straight

PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia scored the first 11 points and never trailed in winning its 10th straight game, 76-60 over Oregon Tech in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action Saturday night.

The win improves the Cavaliers’ record to 10-3 overall, 2-0 in conference play. Oregon Tech falls to 6-6, 0-2 in the CCC.

It took nearly five minutes for the Owls to get on the board to start the game, allowing Concordia to build an 11-0 lead. Following Aundrea Albright’s jumper to give OIT its first two points, the Cavaliers scored the next 10 to lead 21-2 with 13:00 remaining in the first half.

Oregon Tech started working its way back into the game in the closing minutes of the first period. Concordia led by 17 at 36-19 four minutes before halftime, but the Owls used an 11-1 run to pull to 37-30, the closest they had been since the opening minutes. The Cavaliers went into the break with a 40-32 lead.

Brittney Yates opened the second half with a layup to put the Cavs up by 10, but a pair of jumpers from Albright got the Owls to within six at 42-36. CU countered with a 14-3 run to push its lead back to 17 with 10:07 to play.

The Owls didn’t go away, working their way back to within 10 points at 58-48 with 5:16 remaining and pulled as close as eight points back with 3:29 to play and the score 62:54. A pair of layups by Sarah Eischen pushed CU back up by 12 with 2:22 to go.

Crissy Watts’ three-pointer pulled OIT back to within nine, but Eischen’s jumper on the other end pushed the lead back to double-digits in the final two minutes. Concordia used free throws down the stretch to reach the final victory margin of 76-60.

Danielle Clauson (Edmonds, Wash./Kings H.S.) led the way for Concordia, leading both teams with 24 points and eight rebounds. She also added six steals and three assists for Concordia. Courtney May (Napavine, Wash./Napavine H.S.) posted a double-double for CU with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Eischen (Hillsboro, Ore./Hillsboro H.S.) added 12 points and seven boards for the Cavaliers.

Morgan Hofman scored a team-high 18 points for Oregon Tech. Albright tallied 12 points and Kassi Conditt added 11 for the visitors.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball, as Oregon Tech connected on only 23-of-65 attempts from the field (35.4 percent) and 10-of-19 attempts at the free-throw line (33.3 percent). Concordia shot 42.3 percent from the field (30-of-71), but the Cavaliers made only three of 20 shot attempts from beyond the three-point line (15.0 percent) and only 13-of-23 attempts at the charity stripe (56.5 percent).

Concordia gets a week off before returning to action Dec. 17, when the Cavaliers will host Warner Pacific at 7:30 p.m. at Cavalier Gymnasium.
