Ben Voogd had a huge weekend for the Beacons, hitting key baskets late to lift NCU to an upset victory over No. 3-ranked Oregon Tech, and scoring 25 points in a come-from-behind win over Southern Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwest Christian University’s Ben Voogd, a 6-2 senior guard from Florence, Ore., has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

Voogd, who earned the honor for the second time this season, sparked the Beacons to a weekend sweep of No. 3-ranked Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.

In the win over the third-ranked Hustlin’ Owls, who currently share first place in the CCC, Voogd scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds, and handed out six assists. His 25-foot 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game into overtime, where he hit the game-winning layup with just 22 seconds left.

The following night, in a 69-63 win over Southern Oregon, Voogd scored 20 of his game-high 25 points after intermission, as the Beacons erased a 13-point halftime deficit. Voogd also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in addition to handing out five assists.
