The Oregon Tech men and women basketball teams will join in the fight against breast cancer this Saturday, when they host rival Southern Oregon University in the 1st annual “Pink Out” breast cancer awareness event at Danny Miles Court. To support breast cancer awareness and the Martha Anne Dow Center for Health Professions, both the women’s and men’s teams will be wearing pink uniforms for their final home games, and the first 2,000 fans will be given a pink t-shirt at the door. Oregon Tech is very excited about what should be a great evening and fitting tribute to President Dow’s vision for the health sciences at Oregon Tech. The former Oregon Tech president, and Hustlin’ Owl basketball fan, lost her battle to breast cancer on September 29th, 2007. 10 members of the Dow family will be in attendance this weekend.
The Oregon Tech Hustlin’ Owls have now won 34 consecutive games at the friendly confines of Danny Miles Court, a streak dating back to February, 2008. Saturday would set a new school-record of 35-straight home victories at Danny Miles Court, should the Owls take down their rival. After career win 500 for the Oregon Tech coaching icon, the basketball court was officially named Danny Miles Court on December 10, 1995.
This weekend will be the 212th meeting in this long series versus the Raiders dating back to 1950. Oregon Tech leads the overall series 143-68, while Danny Miles is 102-25 against SOU. Oregon Tech has defeated the Raiders the last 24-of-25 contests, including a 72-71 win earlier this year in Ashland.
And, of course, there is the chase to 900 — as in career victories for head coach Danny Miles.
With a win over his alma mater, Oregon Tech head basketball coach Danny Miles will become just the fourth coach in college basketball history with 900 career wins. When he wins his 903rd game of his coaching career, Miles will surpass legendary coach Bob Knight to become the third winningest coach in College basketball history. The Hustlin’ Owls are currently in first place in the Cascade Conference at 12-3 and sit with an overall record of 23-4.
