LEWISTON, Idaho - Diego Robles went 4-for-5 with six RBI, lifting The College of Idaho to a season opening 16-4 victory over Concordia University at the Regence Blue Shield of Idaho Tournament at Harris Field.

The win for the Coyotes (1-0) was their first victory in an opener since 2007 and the 16 runs was the most scored by a C of I team in their season opener in 68 years – dating back to a 20-3 victory over Boise State (then Boise Junior College) in 1942.

After the Cavaliers (0-1) used a walk and hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to spot The C of I a 2-0 lead in the second, Robles followed with a single through the left side to make it 4-0. An inning later, it was the senior again, blooping a two-run single to right to score a pair, pushing the margin to 7-0.

It was enough for Jacob Coats, who went seven quality innings to pick up the victory in his collegiate debut. The lefty scattered just five hits and made just one mistake – allowing a two-run home to the Cavs Sean Myrom in the sixth inning.

The six RBI by Robles was the most by a Coyote since Nate Freese had six RBI vs. Oregon Tech in 2006.

Jordan Lanman went 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, with Ray Santiago going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the victory – part of a 17-hit Coyote attack.

No CU player had a multi-hit game, as the Cavaliers were hurt by four errors.

The Coyotes return to action tomorrow, playing a pair of games – a 12:30 p.m. (PT) contest with No. 7 ranked Lewis-Clark State, and a 3 p.m. (PT) game against Corban.
