LEWISTON, Idaho—Getting six runs across the plate in the first three innings, Corban held on to defeat Concordia 6-5 in non-conference baseball action held at Harris Field on Friday as part of the Regence Tournament hosted by Lewis-Clark State.

With the result, Corban improved to 3-2 on the year while Concordia fell to 0-2 to start the season. Concordia will take on the host LC State Warriors tomorrow at 11 a.m. while Corban will face College of Idaho at 12:30 p.m.

Both teams scraped together a pair of runs in the first inning as Corban led off the game with back-to-back two-out doubles by Steven Blum and Steven Candelaria. The Cavaliers tied the game with a pair of runs of their own with the aid of three hits and three errors in the home half of the inning. The Cavs nearly took the lead but left the bases loaded after fouling out to the catcher.

The Warriors tallied three runs in the top of the second after the first five batters reached safely. Kris Bos and Jonathon Ramirez recording RBI singles to help give Corban the 5-2 lead.

After getting out of the second without allowing a run, Trevor Winsor led off the top of the third with a single and would immediately find his way home on a double off the bat of Josh Warner to extend the Warrior lead.

The Cavs got two runs back in the bottom half of the stanza by loading the bases for a second time after lead-off singles by Andrew Reid and Ryan Kolstad turned into runs when Jon Houts drew a walk to send Reid home and Tony Flanagan grounding out to shortstop for the second RBI of the inning.

Kolstad would score again in the bottom of the seventh following an Andrew Duke single to left after reaching base by way of an error. The score would go on to be the lone run over the final six frames for either team as the Cavs would strand at least one runner in each of the final five innings to prevent the tying score.

Both teams finished with 10 hits with CU leaving a dozen runners on base compared to eight for Corban. Jake Balbas picked up the win after tossing five innings. Nate Hiebert collected the save with a one-hit ninth and CU’s Josh O’Gorman got tagged for the loss.
