Box Score
EUGENE, Ore. – Riding a commanding lead on the glass, Northwest Christian completed a season sweep of The College of Idaho, winning their sixth-straight game, a 84-72 victory over the Coyotes, in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
The Beacons (13-15, 9-7 CCC) held a 49-24 edge in rebounds, recording more offensive rebounds (25) than The C of I had total boards in handing the visitors their 11th-straight conference road loss. The rebounds led to 25 second-chance points, with the NCU bench outscoring C of I’s, 26-3.
A Kelvin Potts jumper at the midway point of the second half gave the Coyotes (8-14, 4-11) the lead at 54-53, but the Beacons used a 12-3 run, keyed by treys from Kellen Spicer and Ben Voogd, to take the lead for good. The C of I would cut the margin to 72-67 with four minutes left, but could not get closer.
Spicer and Quentin Guidry each had 18 points for NCU, with Erik Quick-Warner adding 14, and Voogd scoring 13 points, with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Craig McGee led the Yotes with 19 points, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor – one field goal attempt away from Mark Montgomery’s school record of 8-of-8 shooting, set back in 1983. Potts had 15 points, Matt Ballenger had 14 points and six rebounds, and Steve Peres scored 12.
The Beacons remain ½ game behind Northwest for fifth place in the CCC as the Eagles were also winners on Friday night. With the loss, the Yotes remain in eighth-place in the CCC, with both Southern Oregon and Corban sitting just one-game back, with three games remaining. The three squads are vying for the final playoff spot in the CCC Tournament.
Northwest Christian will look to push their winning streak to seven games on Saturday night when they play host to No. 13 Eastern Oregon University at 7:30 pm. The Beacons upset EOU at home last season, but were 20-point losers in La Grande earlier this season.
