NU's Greg Peters' double-double wasn't enough tonight.
No. 23 Warner Pacific and Glisson's 31 Too Much for Northwest
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University tested No. 23 Warner Pacific tonight, but fell short as the Knights defeated NU, 76-71, in a tight CCC contest in the Northwest Pavilion. The Knights were led by Jake Glisson’s 31 points on 63% shooting on the night.
With Warner Pacific leading 19-17 9 minutes into the first half, NU’s Tyler Mendezona would drop in two free throws to knot the score at 19-19 all. WPC’s Tom Higgins would break the tie with his 3-pointer (22-19) and Warner Pacific would increase its lead to 5, 26-21 with 7:22 to go in the half as Biniam Tadele would sink two free throws. But a little over two minutes later NU’s Blake Solomon would tie the score at 26-26 with his trey at the 5:03 mark. Greg Peters would put NU into the lead, 28-26 on his 15 foot jumper but a 9-2 run punctuated by a Kay lone Riley dunk would give the Knights a 35-30 lead with 21 seconds left in the half. NU’s Blake Solomon would dribble to half court and drain a long distance three with 4 seconds left to make it 35-33 in favor of the Knights at halftime.
Warne pacific would maintain a slim lead over the Eagles for nearly 13 minutes, but Greg George would drop in two free throws to tie the score at 58 a piece with 7:05 left in the game. Rich Skillman would make 3 out of 4 free throws to give NU the lead, 61-60 with 5:36 remaining in the game. WPC’s Jake Glasson would make one of two from the charity stripe to tie the score at 61-all at the 4:57 mark. With NU leading 64-61, Warner’s Reggie Guyton would hit a three pointer from the top of the key to tie the score, 64-64, and the Knights would take command the remainder of the way. Greg George would lay the ball in with 1:08 remaining but that would be the closest the Eagles would come as WPC would go 6 for 6 from the free throw line for their 19th victory of the season.
Warner Pacific (19-7, 11-5 CCC) was led by Jake Glisson’s game high 31 points as he shot 63% on the night and 57% from the 3-point line (5 for 7). He added 9 rebounds to his totals. Kay lone Riley, Reggie Guyton, and Marcel Smith all scored 10 points a piece for the Knights who shot 44% for the game. Riley grabbed a game high 16 rebounds and WPC won the battle of the boards 46-40.
Northwest U. (15-12, 9-7 CCC) was led by senior Blake Solomon with 14 points while the Eagles' posts and juniors Greg George and Greg Peters each dropped in 12 points for NU. Greg Peters registered another double-double on the night with 15 rebounds. Free throw shooting hurt the Eagles as they managed to make only 52% of their attempts, 9 for 19 in the second half (47%).
